Conclusion

Well, it's been a long six months ever since the idea of "First Meal Of The Day" began, with frequent changes to the story and characters, until everything was finalised, and filming could take place.

When I started this project I wanted to do a change from something dark and serious, instead looking at a new field in filmaking for me at least: COMEDY, mainly in this case, slapstick, and visual.

Writing this was very hard, what with numerous changes constantly taking place, until I felt comfortable with what I had and how to edit it all together.

Finally, I've decided to make "First Meal Of The Day" a silent film, having been inspired by the early works of Charlie Chaplin and Laurel & Hardy, I figured that doing a silent picture would say more physically than speech would, hence the saying; "Actions speak louder than words"........that WAS the right saying wasn't it?

And so without further ado, ladies and gents, I give you:

Film Poster Analysis - Spider-Man 3

When I took a first glance at this poster for the film "Spider-Man 3", I knew immediately that it would look like a convincing theatrical piece, with an all star-cast featuring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco, it was a sign that like the previous 2 films in the trilogy, that this was sure to be a hit......but how and why?

The things that captivated me with this film are first off, the fact that it's a film about Spider-Man, who has always been a comic book hero of mine, and I knew instantly as soon as I saw the Black Costume on the poster that they'd be doing one of my favourite storylines concering an alien symbiote, which would start effecting Peter Parker (Spider-Man) massively....

The tagline, "The Greatest Battle Is Within" (Although it's in Italian here), seemed to catch my eye too, as I knew that it would show that the film wouldn't dissapoint.

Seeing as the film is one of great inner-conflict for all the characters, I did like the way that Spidey was mirrored in the glass to show that he would be struggling with his dark side, and becoming a very different character, while facing new and DANGEROUS Foes...

The way in which this mirroring effect has been done is to show how Spider-Man is struggling to keep one side of his persona more dominant than the other, and how the symbiote is succeeding, which could be why the red and blue Spidey is in the mirror.

Overall, this poster makes the film look incredibly promising, indeed like it's predecessors.

First Meal Of The Day: Teaser Posters

The wait is almost over...

Within a week, First Meal Of The Day will be released to the public, but over the course of the next few days, we will continue to surprise you with everything we can, starting off with three teaser posters for the film, showing the main cast, even someone who crosses over from a friend's Film Opening earlier this year....

Meet Billy Butterbread, the Film's Main Protagonist.

Marking this as his first full theatrical appearance, Butterbread shows                                    us a character who seems forgetful and clumsy, willing to go to
extremes just to get his breakfast, while breaking down the
fourth wall in the process, but this is only his FIRST adventure, and
hopefully, lots more will come along the way for our bumbling hero...
Hutomo Stoddart (a.k.a. The Vanquisher), the star of
Ignation Productions' Film Opening "Saint Or Sinner",
makes a stunning return later this month...
The only newcomer here at BlueFlame Pictures, this film also
introduces the character of Nick U.R. Wallit, played by Tom Phillips,
whose name hints at the story of the film; we will look into
this character more often in the not too distant future....

Until next time Bloggers...

Target Audience

When I begun writing the original script for my short film, “First Meal Of The Day”, I wanted to focus massively on how the audience would react to certain jokes, visual or verbal; by thinking about the timing of what I was doing, as well as trying to make it seem laughable, by slipping in some gags which I thought of during filming, particularly in the opening scene.

I also wanted to think of how the audience would react to certain visual shots during the chase scene, and how it would end up, with another character being randomly shoved over in a comedic way, someone’s wallet being randomly stolen by the young man, as well as a gymnast’s bike, which makes the chase seem more lively, making things harder for the other three characters chasing the young man.

In terms of age group, I'd say that this an all around familyfilm, with gags and comedy that will entertain people of all ages; I made this choice because it is most suited to the style of the film, and because I wanted to do something a bit friendlier this time round.

On the whole, I hope my short film is successful with gags in all guises.

Film Review Analysis: Spider-Man 3

The review I have read is on Spider-Man 3, probably the best film of 2007; and what with this being a superhero film, I'd say this film targets people of all ages, from 12 Years Old going up because lots of issues in the film are related to young people growing up, and in some cases (Namely that of the film's main protagonist Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) and his best friend Harry Osborn (James Franco)), the characters are struggling with their personal feeling and friendships, leading up to a confrontation about ten minutes after the start of the film between Parker (Spider-Man) and Osborn (The New Green Goblin).

I think readers should see the film after reading the review to see if they feel the same way about it as the writer of the review.

With this review, the way in which it's started is with a single poster showing Spider-Man looking into the glass of an office window at his symbiote counterpart with some text at the bottom claiming that Spidey 3 is "2007's BIGGEST MOVIE".

I believe that this is particularly eye catching because it shows the reader(s) what to expect from the film.

For this review, three paragraphs are taken up to describe the film; I think this seems suitable because it simply explains the film, what it's about and why it's targeting a certain audience.

At one point in the review, the writer describes the scene in which Peter confronts Harry about their feelings for red-headed actress Mary-Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), eventually leading to a brutal fight between the two, and Peter hurling one of Osborn's pumpkin bombs in his face.

I think the writer wrote this scene in to give us a taster of what's happening amongst the characters in the film.

The reviewer shows us that Spider-Man 3 is very big on character development, such as the story of Peter Parker's dark side, being shown more often, along with Eddie Brock (Topher Grace) and Flint Marko (Thomas Haden Church) spiralling down dark paths of their own by becoming two of Spidey's most feared enemies: Venom (Brock) and Sandman (Marko), and how they lust for revenge on the webslinger in their own personal ways...

Memorable quotes from the film include Tobey Maguire commenting on his new Black Spider-Man costume:

"The Black Suit is sleeker and sexier, more like me in real life!"

Love interest Gwen Stacy actress Bryce Dallas Howard talking about her character:

"Gwen's a part of a love triangle between Peter and MJ, she's got an unconscious and innocent sensuality which, um...and I can't really say anything!"

Overall, I think this review for Spider-Man 3 is very positive, and has helped me greatly while thinking of my own review.

First Meal Of The Day

My upcoming short film, entitled "First Meal Of The Day", will be five to six minutes of everyday life, showing a fairly ordinary story....

...with a twist.

When a young man finds that he has no cereal for his breakfast, he goes to extremes just to get the food he wants before he starts; but along the way, he'll run into certain obsticles, some random, some purposeful, and some that will help him along the way; but ALL these things will get him into trouble...

Though the story itself is fairly simple, there is so much that will make it unique in it's own way, and make it one of a kind.

And so viewers, I bring you "First Meal Of The Day":

Coming soon to a blog near you...

CD Cover Designs

As a part of my A2 Media Course, I've been working on a cover design that would help me when I come to create the poster for my Short Film "First Meal Of The Day".

In the end I did two covers, both of which were rather unique in design, but in all honesty I much prefer the first one I did, which was named after the Greek University of Ioaninna, and used the last part of the quote "Keep Your Friends Close, But Keep Your Enemies Closer...".

As I thought about what would look and sound good, I edited the picture chosen for me: a black and white photograph of a lighthouse with fields of grass in the front part of the photo. With the album name I only took the last part of it for the final piece, simply calling "Ioaninna: Keep Your Enemies Closer...", which featured my own touch: 'Orchestrated By Quincy Jones', which I used as  a technique of improvisation and creativity to give off the impression that this WAS a real album.

As I haven't been able to upload this piece, I will say that as the designer, it is  QUITE impressive.

As I was unable to upload the finished cover onto my blog, I've instead put up the original picture that I eventually edited into the cover for my 'album', as it was described, this is the picture just above the text.

A2 Media Introduction

Hi, my name's Joe Gibbons, and this is my A2 Media Studies Blog; over the course of the next few months I'll be working on my A2 Short Film; the people working on my short film include Tom Phillips & Ignatius Santoso.

Recently I've finished my AS Media Studies Film Opening; a conspiracy-thriller called 'TimeOut', being the first official production made by BlueFlame Pictures, which has allowed me the choice of either continuing the story in my short film, or moving on to something new.

I've decided to do my short film as a comedy, with a much lighter tone and more pace, as I felt that 'TimeOut' had plenty of talking, but the characters were't really saying a lot in my opinion, which created a good mystery, but I've chosen to move on to other things.

My new short comedy is called 'First Meal Of The Day', and tells the story of an ordinary man who just wants some cereal for his breakfast, even if it gets him into trouble along the way...

So be ready for BlueFlame Pictures' New Short Film : "First Meal Of The Day"; with our very first sketch of the film poster already produced, coming soon to a classroom near you...
